Professor Alan Brinkley, et al., in "American History: A Survey" (McGraw-Hill: 8th edition), sealed my fate (even before I saw Fidget's diary entry on the blog). Sure, Roanoke is off the coast of North Carolina, as I mentioned in the 'pool but that will be little consolation after losing this bet.
